SCOTS POURING IN GOALS ON OPENING WEEKEND

For the second straight day Monmouth assaulted the record book but came up just short on the scoreboard as the Scots gave Washington and Jefferson their closest game in program history, falling 17-16.

The Presidents jumped out to a 7-5 first quarter lead and held the advantage at the end of each quarter. Raheem Brown poured in another nine goals as the Scots closed a five-goal deficit  with a six-goal outburst in the fourth quarter, but couldn't force overtime.

Alex Hernandez turned in an eight-save performance in goal for the Scots who will host a tournament on Oct. 3.
