Monmouth's water polo team made sure their drive home from an eastern road trip was an enjoyable one, sinking Penn State-Behrend 14-11 in the final match of the weekend Sunday morning.
The Scots answered quickly after falling behind 1-0 when Behrend made good on their first possession.
Raheem Brown countered with back-to-back goals on his way to a five-goal performance as Monmouth never trailed after the first two minutes. Monmouth added a four-goal second quarter to take a 9-4 halftime lead, their biggest margin of the match.
Penn State briefly cut into the Scots' lead in the third period, scoring four straight goals, but the Scots' defense held for an 11-8 lead after three. The squads traded goals over the final eight minutes to give Monmouth their second win of the season as
Julius Bradsfield and
Sebastian Hernandez added three goals each.
Monmouth had opened the road trip with a two-match set at Gannon, dropping the weekend opener to Mercyhurst 14-7. The Scots trailing 4-2 after the first eight minutes, but couldn't overcome a second quarter scoring drought in which they were outscored 3-0.
The Scots got four goals from Brown and three from Bradsfield in the late game at Gannon, taking a 5-4 first quarter lead before eventually falling to Gannon 24-13. Gannon outscored the Scots 9-2 in the third period and held on for the win.
