Virgil Boucher was one of several outstanding athletes to journey from Murphysboro in southern Illinois to Monmouth and leave his mark on Fighting Scots athletics. He was named to both the Midwest and Little Nineteen All-Conference teams after Monmouth’s unbeaten season in 1931, starring as a blocker and defender on the 9-0-1 squad.
After graduating, Boucher went on to coach and teach for 43 years. He is a member of the Illinois High School Football Association Hall of Fame and a charter member of the Woodruff High School Hall of Fame. He coached at the Peoria school for 20 years.
After retirement, Boucher remained active in numerous civic organizations and was honored by the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce as Volunteer of the Year. He was also actively involved with student recruitment for the college.
