Jerry McBride was a three-sport athlete who won nine varsity letters and All-Midwest Conference honors in basketball. During the fall, he quarterbacked the football team and he played shortstop, second base and catcher in the spring. He made his mark in the winter months, though, being selected to the all-conference squad for all three of his varsity basketball seasons, culminating in first-team recognition in 1957-58.

McBride and Co. rose to the top of the league during his junior year, posting records of 14-2 in the MWC and 18-5 overall. The Scots’ final game was an NCAA tournament loss to powerful University of South Dakota. McBride scored 260 points as a junior and 294 points as a senior.

Among his top individual accomplishments, McBride sank a 15-foot jumper with five seconds remaining in the game to defeat Carleton 70-69. He also scored a career-high 22 points against Kentucky State.
