Brooks ended his Fighting Scot career by leading the 1961 track team to the MWC championship by scoring 32 of the team’s 49-3/4 points. His final collegiate meet was the 1961 NCAA regional meet, at which he scored an amazing 35 points in a single day by participating in the 100- and 220-yard dashes, the 120 high and 220 low hurdles, the long jump and the triple jump.
