One of the all-time great track stars at Monmouth, Dick Vogt made area headlines in 1955 when he took permanent possession of the coveted Jud Kruidenier Trophy, a feat which could only be accomplished by scoring more points than any other Monmouth thinclad for three consecutive years. Perhaps contributing to Vogt’s great conditioning was a stint in the Marine Corps before entering Monmouth.

The former Rock Island High School star set many meet and field records for high and low hurdles during his four-year track career and was Midwest Conference champion in both events from 1953 through 1955. In all meets, Vogt dominated the hurdles and dashes, often taking home four first place trophies for his day’s work.

Vogt also earned two letters in football.
