A football injury as an MC freshman did not prevent him Bob McLoskey from an outstanding basketball career as a Fighting Scot. The 6-foot-3 center always drew the toughest defensive assignments. MC coach Chuck Larson said McLoskey had “the quickest hands of anybody I’ve ever seen. He was perfect on defense.”

McLoskey, one of “The Three Macs,” also led Monmouth in rebounding each of his three varsity seasons. The 1956-57 Scots won the Midwest Conference basketball title and made the school’s first post-season appearance in the NCAA small college tournament. Although Monmouth lost to the University of South Dakota, McLoskey led the Monmouth with 17 points in a brilliant individual performance.

He won honorable mention All-Midwest Conference honors during his junior season and averaged 12 points per game as a senior. He also earned two varsity letters in baseball.
